Senior catcher Jacie McDaniels finished 4 for 4 with two doubles, one run and five RBIs as Walla Walla (17-5) qualified for the State 4A tournament with a 7-1 win over Central Valley (18-5) in a loser-out game of the 4A regional at University High. The Blue Devils' Brandi Schoessler struck out five, walked none and pitched a six-hitter. Eleanor Rassbach and McDaniels had back-to-back RBI doubles during Walla Walla's two-run first. The Blue Devils took a 5-0 lead in the fifth on McDaniels' two-out, two-run single to left field. CV's Shayla Vegas doubled to left-center in the sixth and scored on McKynzie Adams' single to left. CV senior pitcher Carli Riordan capped her stellar career with a nine-hitter, striking out seven and walking two. The Bears had played at the last two state tournaments and won this year's Greater Spokane League and District 8 4A titles.
