Summary

Life Christian's zone defense turned Liberty's normally efficient, high-scoring offense into a clumsy one, until a spirited charge midway through the fourth quarter salvaged the Lancers' title hopes.

Liberty used a 13-4 run and outscored the Eagles 16-8 in the fourth and survived 56-51 in a 2B quarterfinal game at the Arena.

For the Lancers, transition points were few and far between, put-backs off offensive rebounds rimmed out and early jumpers just weren't falling.

Then came the fourth quarter.

Chase Burnham converted two 3-point plays midway through the fourth, the second of which provided an obvious emotional lift and gave Liberty a 48-47 lead -- its first since the opening minutes.

The Lancers used the momentum to slowly pull away, and the Eagles couldn't keep pace.

Liberty's Clay Fleming tallied game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds and Match Burnham scored a quiet 16. Burnham, Liberty's leading scorer, had 10 points in the first quarter, but the Eagles' zone limited his opportunities the rest of the way. Chase Burnham scored 10.

Life Christian's Reid Roelofs tallied a team-high 19 points. The Eagles shot 42.9 percent (12 of 28) in the first half, but just 23.3 percent (7 of 30) after halftime.
