Summary

The second-ranked Curtis Vikings (27-1) swept the Mead Panthers 3-0 in the State 3A volleyball quarterfinals Friday night at Kennewick's Toyota Center. Curtis, seeking its first state title, will meet either Battle Ground or Monroe in Saturday afternoon's semifinals. Curtis used a late 6-0 run to take control of the first game and held on in the third after Mead (27-3) scored five straight to cut the Vikings' lead to 24-23. Mead has won seven state titles, the most recent in 2009 when the Panthers defeated Curtis in the championship match. Mead will play the Battle Ground-Monroe loser at 11 a.m. Saturday in a loser-out match.
