Summary

What happened: Michael Coumont scored 23 points and the Scotties (13-1, 8-0) withstood a fourth-quarter comeback to knock off the visiting Grizzlies (8-5, 5-2) 72-63 on Tuesday.

Coumont drilled five 3-pointers for Freeman, which led 15-7 after the first quarter and 30-18 at halftime. Ryan Maine added 19 points and Rhys McVay had 12 for Freeman.

Newport whittled the deficit down to six and outscored the Scotties 25-18 in the fourth but couldn’t get over the hump. Koa Pancho scored all of his 22 points in the second half while Owen Leslie (17 points) and Tug Smith (12 points) hit four 3-pointers apiece.
