Bodies in river may be missing Bhutanese

Spokane police have confirmed that three bodies were recovered from a car found in the Spokane River near Mission Park. They are believed to be those of three Bhutanese refugees missing for several weeks.

Seventeen-year-old Krishna Dhakal, a student at Lewis & Clark High School, and Dilli Ram Bhattarai, 28, and 21-year-old Krishna L. Dhital, both of Tukwila, had been missing since June 11.

Crews Wednesday afternoon removed a bumper and license plate from the river near South Riverton and Sinto. The Spokane County sheriff’s helicopter was called in and spotted a car in the river just downstream from the bumper and Boone and Hogan, police said.

The vehicle was last seen containing 17-year-old Krishna Dhakal, a student at Lewis & Clark High School, and his cousins Dilli Ram Bhattarai, 28, and 21-year-old Krishna L. Dhital, of Tukwila. Dhakal lives in a home in the 1600 block of East Mission with his family.
