Pride Mafira
Jim Cahill is vice president of Thompson Custom Orthotics and Prosthetics. He was traveling in Africa and met a Frederick Mafira and his son, Pride, who was born without a femur in his leg, which was amputated. Cahill, who lost his own leg in the Coast Guard, invited the father and son to Spokane, where he fit Pride for a leg. In addition, Mafira, is being trained in prosthetic fabrication, which will help him care for Pride as he grows and also provide the father with a trade when he returns to Zimbabwe.
