Brayden Race was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (type of bone cancer) back in November 22, 2013, during her sophomore year. She had 23 runs of chemo and seven weeks of radiation (10 months total). She transferred to MEAD while undergoing treatment to keep up as best she could with school and then transferred back to Mead HS at the beginning of her junior year. Since the treatment, her physical abilities have been compromised. She struggled to just be able to walk after treatment. She was an avid softball player and has since given that up. Her plan after high school is to attend cosmetology school to become a makeup artist. View Brayden’s story

Mitch Carbon is the notable senior for University High School. Mitch has spent his entire high school career battling cancer. Four times he thought he had conquered it, and four times it came back. During this life struggle, he maintained an A average and did his school work from hospital beds, during his summers and as much as he could at school. Finally, in his senior year, through an experimental T-cell procedure, on his virtual death-bed, Mitch came through to the other side. He is now miraculously, 100 percent cancer-free. He is graduating with his class and he is going to attend Whitworth University in the fall. View Mitch’s story
