U.S. hockey GM dies unexpectedly at Colorado Springs home

Jim Johannson, the general manager of the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team, has died just a couple weeks before the start of the Pyeongchang Games. He was 53. Johannson passed away in his sleep, according to USA Hockey. Executive director Pat Kelleher says the organization is “beyond shocked and profoundly saddened” by the loss of the Rochester, Minnesota native.

Computer: Norway to win most medals at 2018 Winter Olympics

It could be a record-setting Winter Olympics for Norway next year in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The head of analysis for Gracenote, a U.S.-based sports and entertainment provider, is running a sophisticated computer program that predicts Norway will win 40 medals, which would be a Winter Olympic record for overall medals. Germany and the United States will be next in line in the overall medal haul.

Yuna Kim reveals Olympic torch in countdown to 2018 Games

The one-year countdown to the Pyeongchang Games began Thursday with Yuna Kim revealing the Olympic torch and organizers opening online ticket reservations. South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn and an International Olympic Committee delegation led by Gunilla Lindberg, who heads the IOC’s coordination commission for the games, also attended the ceremony in Gangneung, which will host the ice sports events next year.

They looked the other direction and saw the scoreboard: Maddie Bowman of the United States won gold, Marie Martinod of France took silver and Ayana Onozuka of Japan took bronze.
