The wait is almost over for Erik Meyer. After four seasons as a record-setting quarterback for the Eastern Washington Eagles, Meyer has spent five often frustrating years trying to carve out a spot in professional football. He was a backup for the Arena Football League’s Utah Blaze when the Spokane Shock, in dire need of a quarterback, traded for Meyer last week.

Spokane Shock release quarterback Hansen after two games

Casey Hansen’s second stint as a Spokane Shock quarterback lasted two games. The Arena Football League team released Hansen and wide receiver Ryan Bagley on Thursday. It was also announced that new center Raymond McNeil, acquired along with quarterback Erik Meyer in a trade earlier this week, will be one of the team’s three marketing players who earn $1,000 per game instead of $400. Defensive end Khreem Smith, dealt to Utah along with center Antonio Narcisse, will have the same designation with the Blaze.

Shock making deals

Spokane has made a trade it hopes will resolve its quarterback issues, but it came at a steep price. The Shock dealt standout defensive end Khreem Smith and center Antonio Narcisse to Utah for quarterback Erik Meyer and center Raymond McNeil. Meyer, the former Eastern Washington Eagle, was Kyle Rowley’s backup in Spokane most of last season.

Shock lose to Kansas City on last-second field goal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A furious comeback by the Spokane Shock fell short Saturday when Brian Umstead kicked a 23-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Kansas City Command to a 45-42 victory in Arena Football League action. The Command were scoreless in the fourth quarter until the field goal.
