Aaron J. Kotarek

Aaron J. Kotarek serves as the General Manager & Chief Operating Officer of The Spokesman-Review.

Before relocating to Spokane, Mr. Kotarek served as Senior Vice President of Audience & Operations at Oahu Publications, Inc., Hawaii’s largest media company and the flagship operation of Carpenter Media Group.

A 30+ year veteran of the publishing industry, Aaron has held executive leadership roles at prominent media conglomerates including Gannett, A.H. Belo, Cox Enterprises, Morris Communications, McClatchy, and the Dow Jones Local Media Group. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including being named to Editor & Publisher magazine’s “Top 25 Media Executives Over Age 50” list, and he was recently the recipient of the America’s Newspapers’ “MEGA Innovation Award.” In 2022, Aaron was bestowed with Marian University’s “Distinguished Alumni Award” for achievements in his chosen profession while demonstrating and upholding the core values of the university. He is also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Audience Development Media Alliance (ADMA).

As an industry thought leader and frequent national speaker, Aaron regularly presents at media industry executive leadership summits. He is often featured on panels and podcasts where he shares his expertise on AI utilization, digital transformation, consumer revenue monetization, and audience engagement strategies.
