Amazon to start collecting sales tax

Online retail giant Amazon says it will begin collecting state sales tax from Idaho shoppers starting next month. Boise TV station KTVB reports Amazon will begin collecting the 6 percent sales tax on April 1. Well, at least Gov. Butch Otter is happy about the change.

Unbelievably, the Idaho Senate did something Thursday that deserves our applause. Rather than push ahead with an income tax cut that was pushed by GOP leaders, the Senate rebelled and voted to dump the 6% sales tax on groceries -- one of the least popular taxes.
