I always figured that the "dog days of summer" was, basically, the month of August, the weeks when the summer was winding down. Now, as a result of a post by Paul Turner/The Slice, I realize the dog days run from about July 3 until -- today. Aug. 11 is suppose to be the end of the mos tsultry period of summer.
