Petition Seeks Division Of Bonner School District

Disgruntled over high taxes and snailpaced school improvements, some Bonner County residents want to carve their school district into three separate chunks. "They see all these millions coming into the school district and they don't feel that anybody's getting their fair share," said Carol Pietsch, a state legislator from Sandpoint who's become the unofficial spokesman for the petitioners. The Bonner County School Board tonight will discuss a petition to radically restructure the school district.

Police Arrest Man After He Allegedly Shot At Son

A 14-year-old boy sitting in a car was shot at by his estranged father shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. Christopher Tucker, 48, of Coeur d'Alene was arrested on attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot at the car his son was riding in.

Beach Dispute Leads To Gunfire, Assault Charge

A simmering beach dispute led to gunfire on the shores of Hayden Lake over the weekend, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department. Brad Nelson St. John, 38, of Hayden Lake was arrested on an aggravated assault charge Saturday night for allegedly shooting at one neighbor and threatening another with an 8-foot stick.

What parents started as an angry petition drive has turned into a cooperative plan with school officials to bus children across town. Their proposal to move all kindergarten students from Ramsey Elementary to Hayden Lake Elementary next fall will go before the Coeur d'Alene School Board tonight.
