Wtb Earns Matchup With Ziebart Call It July Madness.

Washington Trust Bank, seeded sixth out of six teams, captured the Athletic Round Table American Le- gion baseball tournament at Shadle Park on Sunday, earning a shot at regular-season champion Ziebart.

WTB won twice Sunday to cap a 5-0 tournament run. It meets Ziebart at Shadle on Wednesday, the opener of a best-of-five series that will deter- mine the district’s state berth.

WTB opened with a 13-7 victory over M&L Construction. Andy Sage clubbed a home run and finished with three RBIs. Austin McDonald added two hits and two RBIs.

McDonald went 3 for 4 with four RBIs in WTB’s second win, a 7-6 victory over Spokane Federal Credit Union.

In other games, PAC downed Northland/Brunette 16-11 on Chris Leavitt’s four hits and two RBIs, and SFCU knocked off PAC 9-7 behind Jason Parsons’ two hits and two RBIs.

Spokane finished fourth at the Babe Ruth League regional tourna- ment in Longview, Wash., falling 4-1 to Southern Oregon in the consola- tion game.

Spokane, which finished the season 15-4, was led by Chris Hilsabeck’s two hits. Juston Folkins added Spokane’s only other hit.

Hydroplane racing: Miss Budweis- er, driven by Chip Hanauer, won the Budweiser Columbia Cup unlimited hydroplane race in Kennewick, cap- turing the winner-take-all final heat at an average speed of 148.130 mph.

Hanauer’s victory in the finals capped a three-win day. He received a stiff challenge in the finals from Mark Tate in the Smokin’ Joe’s. Tate took the lead coming out of the first turn and held Hanauer off for a lap. In the first turn of the second lap, however, Hanauer powered away.

Tate averaged 145.870 mph for second place. Third was Miss T-Plus, driven by Steve David at 143.555 mph, followed by Miss Exide, driven by Mark Evans, at 141.645 mph; Tide, driven by Nate Brown, at 136.400 mph; and Miss Tri-Cities, driven by Scott Pierce, at 122.165 mph.

Softball: Classics of Vancouver, Wash., won the 14-under girls fast- pitch Regional Championship at Franklin Park, leading a four-team contingent that will play in the Na- tional Tournament in Marietta, Ga., on Aug. 13-14.

Also earning berths were Oregon Sun Supply of Aloha, Diamond Dashers of Vancouver, and Locker Room of Longview.

Golf: Craig Looper defeated Bob Christiansen in sudden death to win the Spokane City Amateur Cham- pionship at Downriver Golf Course.
