Convicted Rapist Arrested

Police arrested a convicted rapist Sunday after he allegedly molested a 13-year-old Coeur d’Alene girl.

On Monday, prosecutors charged Barton C. Clabaugh, 21, with felony lewd conduct with a minor.

Clabaugh had been staying with the girl’s parents at their home. According to a Coeur d’Alene Police report, he entered the girl’s bedroom at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The girl told police she was sleeping when Clabaugh woke her up, put his hand over her mouth and molested her while her older sister slept nearby.

Clabaugh was convicted of raping a 14-year-old Post Falls girl in 1992. He was 19 at the time of the crime.

The Post Falls man was sentenced to three years probation and was still on probation at the time of Sunday’s incident.

He remains in Kootenai County jail on $25,000 bail.
