Deputies Back Goldman For Sheriff
Spokane County sheriff’s deputies decided overwhelmingly that they want Undersheriff John Goldman to be the next sheriff.
They voted 63-1 to endorse Goldman on Monday night after deliberating for one hour.
“His ideals are going in the right direction, especially hands-on stuff, like working from the bottom up,” said Dan Blashill, president of the Spokane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
Goldman, a Democrat who has been with the sheriff’s department for 25 years, said he was “most grateful” for the endorsement.
Issues important to the deputies when they interviewed the candidates included community-oriented policing, ability to obtain money for the Sheriff’s Department and management philosophy.
Also running for sheriff are Sgt. Mark Sterk of the Spokane Police Department and former sheriff’s Capt. John McGregor, both Republicans, and former Pend Oreille County sheriff Tony Bamonte, a Democrat.
The association has 160 members and represents all the deputies, detectives and sergeants in the Sheriff’s Department.
