Four Separate Fires Break Out In Valley
Suspicious fires kept Valley firefighters hopping earlier this week.
Four separate blazes broke out Monday and Tuesday throughout the Valley, District 1 reported. Firefighters don’t know how any of them started.
About 12:30 a.m. Monday, a fire burned a circle 25-feet in diameter in some grass near Sprague and Park.
Firefighters emptied a full tank of water from a brush truck on the blaze to put it out.
At about 2:30 p.m. Monday, a -acre fire broke out behind the Balfour pool in a field littered with grass clippings and brush piles.
It rekindled later in the day but was quickly doused.
Early Tuesday, two fires started about the same time near near Trent and Barker.
The two blazes scorched about -acre of grass before firefighters could extinguish them.
Fire investigators are investigating all the blazes.
Accidental shooting
A 19-year-old Valley man accidentally shot himself in the hand with a pellet gun Sunday, Valley Fire reported.
Ryan Bailey, who lives in the E9500 block of Fourth, was pumping air into the .177-calibre pistol when it went off, a report stated.
The pellet was lodged in Bailey’s left hand when fire crews arrived about 12:30 p.m. They wrapped the wound, and Bailey made arrangements to get to a doctor.
Motor home blaze
Fire destroyed a $60,000 motor home that was parked in the N600 block of Havana on July 29, Valley Fire reported.
No one knows what caused the 1983 Holiday Rambler to catch fire.
When crews arrived at about 9:15 p.m., the vehicle was totally engulfed in flames. No one was hurt.
The rig was owned by Walter Darret of Rochester, Wash.
House vandalized
Vandals trashed an unfinished house in the E11600 block of 10th late last week, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The vandals used a key hidden outside the house to gain entry, then spray-painted obscenities and other graffiti on the walls inside the house, Lt. Clyde Ries said.
They also plastered construction tape throughout the dwelling and broke some things, Ries said.
The damage occurred either July 28 or July 29.
