As the hot weather continues, the track favors speed early in the week. As it packs down, stretch-runners take over by the weekend. The track crew digs up the surface on Monday and starts the cycle again. Until the weather changes, periods of track bias seem inevitable.

Montani, who chased the best mares last weekend, looks like the best horse in tonight’s feature. She comes from off the pace, but it looks as if there should be plenty of that.

Squawk Ident in the third race, Do Gooder in the eighth and Somerset Plain in the 10th are much better placed tonight. Hungry Ice, in the third, has the speed to surprise.

Here are tonight’s selections:
