Motorcyclist Killed In Collision

From Staff

A Spokane man died Sunday from head injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car in north Spokane on Saturday.

Raymond Charles Anderson, 34, E1732 Crown, died at Holy Family Hospital.

Anderson was driving west on Francis on a 1979 Yamaha at 9:18 p.m., said Spokane police Cpl. Tom Sahlberg. He collided with a 1981 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Rodney P. Johnson, 23, E603 Houston.

Johnson, who was headed east, was making a left turn onto Standard from Francis, Sahlberg said. He suffered minor injuries.

John R. Emmitt, 25, of W3000 Sunset Boulevard, was a passenger on Anderson’s motorcycle. He suffered head injuries and a broken pelvis and was in satisfactory condition at Holy Family on Monday.

Both Anderson and Emmitt were wearing helmets.

It was the second fatal accident at Francis and Standard in a month. Sheldon Smesrud, 77, of Spokane, was killed while walking across the intersection on July 7.

Anderson’s death is the 10th traffic death in the city this year, compared to seven in all of 1993, 11 in 1992 and five in 1991.
