Child Molester Faces New Charge
Convicted child molester Barton Charles Clabaugh was bound over for trial Wednesday following his preliminary hearing on new child molestation charges.
Clabaugh, 21, of Coeur d’Alene was arrested July 31 on felony lewd conduct charges.
Clabaugh is accused of molesting a 13-year-old at 12:30 a.m. July 31 while the girl’s family slept.
Clabaugh was staying with the family at the time. The girl testified Wednesday that Clabaugh woke her up, calling her by name, then covered her mouth as he molested her, said Deputy Prosecutor Lansing Haynes.
Clabaugh testified that he had been dreaming about his wife and then ended up in the 13-year-old’s bed. The girl told her parents about the events and her parents notified police, Haynes said.
At the time, Clabaugh was still on probation for a 1992 rape conviction involving a 14-year-old Post Falls girl.
