Cda Mines Losses Increase Despite Record Gold Output

Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp. Monday reported losses increased during the first half of 1994, despite record gold production. The company, which owns two idled silver mines in North Idaho’s Silver Valley, lost $1.3 million in the second quarter compared with a loss of $1 million in the second quarter of 1993. That translates to a loss of 9 cents a share, vs. 7 cents.

Through the first six months of the year, the company lost $3.9 million compared with profits of $2.2 million for the first half of 1993. A one-time accounting change during the first half of 1993 resulted in a $5.2 million gain for the company.

Coeur d’Alene’s gold properties produced a record 63,100 ounces for the first half of 1994, the company said.

Second-quarter revenues rose 26 percent to $25.3 million from $20.1 million in the second quarter of 1993. Helped by higher silver and gold prices, first-half revenues rose 49 percent to $49.8 million from $33.4 in 1993.

Coeur d’Alene Mines’ stock closed Monday up 13 cents at $17.75.
