Hewlett-Packard Earnings Soar 28%
Hewlett-Packard Co.’s shares shot up Tuesday after the company reported a 28 percent profit jump and signaled continuing gains.
One of the nation’s largest computer companies, Hewlett-Packard earned $347 million, or $1.33 a share, for the three months ended July 31, the third quarter of its fiscal year. It earned $271 million, or $1.06 per share, in the same period last year.
Revenue was up 22 percent to $6.1 billion from $5 billion a year ago. Orders jumped 27 percent to $6 billion.
Hewlett-Packard’s stock closed at $87.625 Tuesday, up $8.50 on the New York Stock Exchange.
