Living here in the Tri-Cities next to the most contaminated nuclear site in the United States can have its psychological aggravations. But you know what can really get your goat, tan your hide and make you spit nails while really seeing red? It’s the exorbitant money the Department of Energy has been paying its contractors for everything from cost overruns to excessively inflated legal fees ($30 million at Hanford just on the downwinders’ case, and that’s still a year from trial).

DOE is like those three primates suspended deep in denial while the contractors are making off like ants at a picnic.
