Healthplus, Msc Discuss Affiliation

HealthPlus clients were being notified Thursday of a pending affiliation with Medical Service Corp. of Eastern Washington.

However, officials for Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska, which owns HealthPlus, and MSC declined comment on the notice.

A spokeswoman for Spokane-based MSC said a news release would be made available this afternoon, but she would not comment on the nature of the release.

HealthPlus has about 18,500 members in the Spokane area. MSC, the largest health care contractor in Eastern Washington, has more than 200,000 clients.

There will be no change in the existing contracts between HealthPlus and its clients as a result of the affiliation, according to information distributed to clients. The affiliation will help position the organizations for the pending overhaul of the health-care industry in Washington.
