Term-Limiting Initiative Up For Vote

The initiative slapping limits on the service of every elected official in Idaho won ballot status Friday after supporters submitted more than 39,000 registered voter signatures.

Supporters spent a record $45,000 to $50,000 on paid signature gatherers to assure a voter decision on the initiative that would make Idaho the first state in the nation to impose statewide restrictions on city, county and school board officers.

“This is really a victory for the people of the state of Idaho,” declared Beau Parent, the head of Idahoans For Term Limits. “It’s on the ballot now,” Parent said.To be known as

Proposition Two on the Nov. 8 ballot, the initiative prohibits a person from appearing on the ballot if they have served:

As a U.S. senator for 12 years or more in the previous 23 years.

As a U.S. House member, county commissioner or school board member for six years or more in the previous 11 years.

In any statewide office, the legislature, county office other than commissioner, mayoralty or city council for eight years or more in the previous 15 years.
