Firefighters Honor Fallen Volunteer
About 25 volunteer firefighting crews from throughout Eastern Washington planned to parade their engines through Republic today in honor of a volunteer who died fighting a fire Monday.
Dana Morrison, 38, suffered a massive heart attack while fighting a 20-acre wild fire near Malo, Wash. Ferry County Fire District 2 Commissioner John Foster said the fire started when a landowner’s weed burning operation got out of control.
Sheriff Pete Warner said no charges are planned against the land owner, whom he declined to identify.
Morrison is survived by his wife and four children.
