Snow Helps Front Lines Hold Steady In Bosnia
Bosnia’s warring armies skirmished on several fronts Saturday, but U.N. peacekeepers said a deep blanket of snow helped front lines hold steady.
Despite a few low-level exchanges of artillery and small-arms fire, there was no major fighting in central and northeastern Bosnia, where Bosnian Serb rebels are trying to push back offensives by the Muslim-led government army.
Meanwhile, renegade Muslims backed by Serb forces attacked government troops in the northwestern enclave of Bihac, a U.N.-protected “safe area.”
Shelling that appeared to come from Serb territory on Friday injured two civilians there, including an 11-year-old boy, peacekeepers said.
