Hill Glad Jordan Returned
On the cover of the current issue of GQ magazine, the headline asks: “Can Grant Hill Save Sports?” They obviously went to press before Michael Jordan issued his two-word “I’m back” release.
“I think Michael Jordan coming back is the savior,” Hill says now. “I’m just a disciple.”
Yep, it looks as if the Grant Hill PR machine will be slowed somewhat now that Jordan’s back. Hill’s not shedding any tears about that, however.
“Him coming back is going to take away a lot of the attention, and that’s good,” Hill said. “With him coming back, I can just be a rookie now.”
Hill gets his first crack at Jordan when the Bulls visit the Pistons on April 12.
“I felt cheated when he retired because I didn’t get a chance to play against him,” Hill said. “Not that I think I could beat him, but just the opportunity of playing against the best.”
Rapidly setting Suns
The Phoenix Suns held the NBA’s best record two weeks ago. Now it appears they’ll allow the Magic, Sonics or Jazz to enjoy that privilege when the season ends. Hurt by a lack of both defense and Danny Manning, the Suns are slipping badly.
They’re only 13-10 since the AllStar break and 15-10 since Manning was lost for the season after knee surgery.
McHale to the front office
Although it is not yet confirmed, Kevin McHale will be the next general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves, replacing Jack McCloskey.
