Injury Affects Volleyball

A shoulder injury to Kent Steffes, one of the best players in beach volleyball, could have a major effect on U.S. representation in the Olympics next year.

Steffes and Karch Kiraly form the top team in the sport, which makes its Olympic debut next summer at the Atlanta Games.

When Steffes underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a tear in his shoulder, it virtually eliminated him and Kiraly from grabbing the one automatic Olympic berth available this year.
