Women’s coverage still lacking
Well, good effort. At least you mentioned the girls’ Final Four games. But your article was so uninformative you may as well have just put an announcement saying, “Oh, and the girls played, too” in the small space you allotted the article.
Who are the main players? Who has great moves? Which game has an excellent match-up to watch for? How long have the girls’ teams been waiting for their chance in the spotlight?
Don’t just tell us how far the girls’ game has come, prove it to us. Quit feeding us heartwarming stats about more fans than coverage. Treat it like what it is: a highly competitive set of games between four qualified, hardworking teams. Give girls the credit they deserve. Jennifer Swinton Spokane
Cox viewer calls for KIRO
In regards to the Jim Kershner (“Spotlight”) column (March 19, S-R IN Life), I am deeply concerned about Cox Cable’s disinterest in carrying Seattle’s KIRO television once KSTW is dropped.
KIRO is now the official flagship station of the Seattle Mariners and is soon to be the official flagship of the Seattle SuperSonics.
The newly owned KIRO-TV (A.H. Bello) is already establishing itself as the official in-depth news station of Western Washington.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer recently heralded KIRO-TV on its editorial page for providing Seattle with high-quality, round-the-clock news coverage.
Between the nearly incredible 10 hours of scheduled daily newscasts, KIRO’s programming includes movies, local entertainment shows, sports and upstart UPN programs.
Because KSTW is now a CBS affiliate, Cox Cable will be removing KSTW from its channel lineup at the completion of this Seattle Sonics season.
While nearly all of us are glad to be residents of the Inland Northwest, we know Seattle is the largest city in our state and it is located on the side that contains Olympia, Microsoft, Boeing and many issues and events relevant to us.
Cox Cable would do well to reconsider carrying a television station as prestigious as KIRO.
Sonics fans, Mariners fans and those of us who desire a much greater coverage of our entire state, should write or call Cox Cable to say KIRO-TV would be the best considered replacement of KSTW. Mark Truppner Spokane
