Washington Coaches, A.D. Coming To Spokane May 1
University of Washington alumni and friends can meet with members of the school’s athletic department when the 24th annual UW Coaches Tour launches a 10-city stop in Spokane May 1.
Football coach Jim Lambright, men’s basketball coach Bob Bender and athletic director Barbara Hedges will be among Huskies participating in a golf scramble and dinner at Manito Golf & Country Club.
Cost to UW alumni association members is $30 for golf and $26 for the dinner. For non-members, it’s $32 for golf and $28 for dinner. Non-golfers are encouraged to attend. The golf price includes a barbecue before the five-person scramble event at noon. Dinner will be at 7 p.m.

Gonzaga University will switch to a luncheon format, from a banquet, to honor its senior studentathletes this year. The event will be Thursday, April 27, in the Skyline Ballroom of Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park.
The male and female senior athlete of the year will be announced, and longtime Bulldog Club booster Pat West will receive the 1995 Bulldog Club Service Award.
Cost is $15 for a buffet-style lunch. Reservations can be made through the Bulldog Club office, 328-4220, ext. 4211. Deadline for reservations is April 24.
West, senior vice president and financial consultant for Smith Barney Inc., has been a member of the university’s board of trustees since 1984. He has also been active in the Bulldog Club.
Because of the luncheon, the monthly meeting of the Bulldog Club scheduled for April 18 has been canceled.
Gonzaga University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will be honored April 21 at a banquet to be held on the main court of Martin Centre.
Cost is $20 per person. The evening begins with a social at 6. For reservations, contact the GU athletic department at 328-4220, ext. 4204. Deadline is April 14.
The first Chris Tormey Golf Tournament, honoring the first-year University of Idaho football coach, will be held at the University of Idaho Golf Course on April 29.
Registration will be at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11. Cost is $60, which includes golf, lunch, prizes and dinner at the University Inn.

Basketball
Courtney Dunham of Spokane (Northwest Christian), a sophomore at Biola University in Los Angeles, capped a big season by being named to the Golden State Athletic Conference all-league team.
A starting guard for two years at Biola, an NAIA Division I school, she was named to three alltournament teams during the season - at Colorado Springs, Cal State L.A. and Cal Baptist. She has a 3.877 grade-point average.
The Lewis-Clark State College campus in Lewiston will be the site of the Dogwood Dunk 3-on-3 tournament Saturday. Late registration and check-in is at 8 a.m., with games beginning at 9.
Entry fee is $50 per four-person team in advance, $55 at the site. Competition will be held in six female and 10 male categories, starting with fifth-grade boys and sixthgrade girls.

Baseball
Cris Coffield of Spokane, a junior at Northeast Louisiana, was the Southland Conference player of the week for baseball the last week of March.
Coffield, an outfielder from Rogers High School, led the Indians (23-10) to a 5-0 week by batting 9 for 15 (.600) with two home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, five runs scored and three stolen bases. Three of his hits were game-winners.
In 32 games, he’s hitting .355 and leads the team with five home runs and 65 total bases.
Miscellany
Spokane native Mike Hogan has been named the University of Idaho’s new marketing and promotions director. He begins April 20.
Hogan, 26, comes to Idaho from Weber State, where he held the same position for a year.
Hogan, a 1991 graduate of Santa Clara University, who received his master’s degree from Gonzaga University in 1994, was instrumental in helping Weber State draw record crowds for football in 1994 and stave off possible elimination of the sport by the school’s board of trustees. The Wildcats averaged a record 12,861 fans for five home games this past fall.
Hogan, also a graduate of Gonzaga Prep, replaces Tom Burman, who left Idaho to become the director of the Cowboy Joe Club at the University of Wyoming.
Skiing
Two Spokane skiers, Jamin Patten and Molly Maixner, had the best overall showing during the Pacific Northwest Ski Association’s Evergreen Cup races at Schweitzer Mountain last weekend.
Patten, 17, representing the Spokane Ski Racing Association, won Saturday’s men’s slalom after finishing second behind Jamie Landwehr, 18, of Coeur d’Alene, skiing for Schweitzer Alpine Racing School, in Friday’s 80-man giant slalom.
Maixner, 15, of SARS, won the 35-woman giant slalom Friday and finished third in Saturday’s slalom.

Track and field
Eastern Washington University will be the site of the Cheney Invitational, a USA Track and Field event, June 10. Competition will be held in seven age divisions from 6-and-under through 18.
Entry fee is $1 per event, except for the 6-and-under group, where it’s $1 per athlete. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with field events starting at 11 and running at 11:30.
