Bangladesh Tornado Kills At Least 37

A tornado battered southern and central Bangladesh, killing at least 37 people and injuring more than 1,000, officials said Sunday.

The tornado struck Munshiganj in central Bangladesh and Chittagong farther south on Saturday. It was accompanied by hail and heavy rains.

The tornado destroyed or damaged more than 4,000 houses, schools and offices, an official at Munshiganj, 20 miles south of here, said by telephone Sunday.

Officials said at least seven people are missing.
