The Human Animal Is Far More Dangerous

Rick Riddle Post Falls

Letter of the week From March 29

A wide variety of nonindigenous species, such as the Yellow-bellied Hatemonger, Woodland Paramilitary, Ringnecked Reactionary, Lily-white Aryan, Southern Bible-banger and the Midwestern Tax Evader have all found sanctuary in the Northwest.

Once considered endangered, local recruiting efforts have resulted in dramatic increases in their numbers. The states of the Northwest, including Idaho, have become prime habitat for these animals. Indeed, each species is flourishing, if reports in the newspapers are any indication.

It was with no small amount of surprise, then, that I read of Rep. Helen Chenoweth’s desire to dismantle the Endangered Species Act. Isn’t it curious that the congresswoman’s rhetoric, which encourages the wholesale migration to Idaho of rednecks - an infinitely more dangerous species - shows little sympathy for the reintroduction of a few bears.

As a point of fact, I would say these other non-native species pose a greater threat to the economic well-being of Idaho than does the loss of a handful of sheep and cows.
