Snow, Sleet, Wind Slam Into Midwest
A spring storm slammed the central states Monday - dumping snow that was measured in feet, toppling power lines and making a mess for travelers. At least two storm-related fatalities were reported.
By noon Monday, parts of eastcentral South Dakota had received more than a foot of snow. Scores of school districts called off classes Monday.
Snowplows couldn’t keep up.
Ice and snow caused scattered power outages across Sioux Falls, S.D., a Northern States Power spokesman said.
High winds and sleet also knocked down hundreds of power lines across Nebraska, leaving people in Bloomfield and Hartington without electricity for more than four hours, said Wayne Jacobsen, spokesman for the Nebraska Public Power District.
