Arena Football For Ex-Vandal

Former University of Idaho defensive back and return specialist Richard Carey has signed with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. He was a starting cornerback at UI 1986-88.

He set a school record in 1988 for best average per punt return at 16.5.

UI athletes honored

Idaho sophomores Niels Kruller and Frank Bruder have been named the Big Sky Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Bruder won the track award when he provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase when he ran 8:53.38 in Seattle over the weekend. Kruller picked up the field award as he jumped 24-10 1/2 in the long jump at Seattle.
