Lakeland Wins, 13-0
Brett DeBoer had 16 strikeouts and no walks to lead Lakeland (1-0) to a 13-0 Intermountain League baseball victory over St. Maries (0-1) Tuesday.
Lakeland took advantage of five sixth-inning errors by St. Maries, scoring 10 runs, five of them unearned. Josh Phelps hit a solo home run in the second inning and Joel Gorham had a two-run triple in the sixth inning.
In a non-league game, Owen Cotter pitched Wallace to a 3-2 win over Lake City’s junior varsity.
Wallace’s Ryan Nipp had an RBI single in the fifth inning, driving in the winning run scored by Cotter. Brian St.Peter had two hits for Wallace (4-1).
Soccer:Robin Bundy of host Lake City (5-0-2) scored the only goal of the match in the second half as the Timberwolves defeated Sandpoint, 1-0. Sandpoint made a run at the end with Jeremy Fredricksen creating some shots. However, Lake City goaltender Chad Beadell saved one and the other shots were wide.
Softball: Post Falls picked up their first two Inland Empire League wins, beating Sandpoint 11-7 and 6-5. The Trojans’ (2-2, 2-5) Brittany Murphy had a grand slam in the first inning of the first game and finished the game with two hits and four RBIs.
Kym Morrison picked up her first win of the season and Sarah Atkinson also picked up her first win in the second game. In the second game, Post Falls scored four runs in the first inning including three singles in a row. Deanne Young had a double to drive in two runs in the first inning. Post Falls is 2-2, 2-5 overall.
