Yarroll No-Hitter Carries Pullman
Christy Yarroll of Pullman opened Frontier League play with flair, throwing a no-hitter against Colville in a 19-0 victory.
Yarroll had 14 strikeouts, including 11 in a row at one point, and four walks for the Indians (0-1).
In another FL game, West Valley pounded Cheney 15-0.
Tarrah Brown led Pullman (1-0) with three hits and three RBIs, and the Greyhounds also benefitted from seven Colville errors.
At Cheney, Peggy Palmer led West Valley (1-0) with four hits, including an RBI triple, in a 15-0 win over the Blackhawks (0-1).
Winning pitcher Darcy Sohns struck out 14 of the 18 batters she faced to improve her record to (1-0) and also had two hits.
The Blackhawks committed five errors in the loss.
Clarkston will play East Valley in a makeup game today at 4 p.m.
Baseball
Tyson Sohns pitched a four-hit complete game, with 12 strikeouts, in West Valley’s 5-2 win over visiting Cheney (3-3). Joe Andrews was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Justin Tichy went 2 for 4 and Riley Allen was 2 for 3 with and RBI for the Eagles (3-3).
The Eagles’ Tim Eklund hit his fourth triple of the year, in the third inning, scoring one.
At Pullman, Cody Heator had three hits, including two doubles to lead Colville to a 5-3 win over the Greyhounds (3-3). The Indians’ (3-3) Eric Weatherman improved his record to 3-0, striking out three and walking six.
Ray Kallaher had and RBI double in the fourth inning and a double in the sixth. In the fourth inning, Colville had three runs by stringing four hits together and an error.
Soccer
East Valley’s Clint Burgess and Gabe Escobar scored one goal each to lead the Knights (3-1-1) over Riverside-Deer Park (2-3-0), 2-1. Escobar scored on a corner kick, untouched in the top right corner.
Riverside-Deer Park’s, Aaron Doyle saved seven shots, including a penalty kick and two one-on-one situations.
At Cheney, the Blackhawks (6-0) won 9-0, scoring five times in the second half to beat the Bantams (0-3-1), who were outshot 25-1.
Trevor Harelson scored three goals to lead the way for the Blackhawks. Jack Shamp assisted on the first three goals and scored one later in the second half.
At West Valley, Loren Gravos scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Eagles (3-1-1) put away the Greyhounds (2-2-0) 3-1.
