Central Valley Students Advance To State In Business Competition
Sixteen Central Valley High School students will attend the state leadership conference for the Future Business Leaders of America after winning awards in a regional conference.
The state competition will take place at the Spokane Sheraton Hotel April 27-29. The regional contest was held at Spokane Community College in February.
Justin Johnson, Dave Johnson, Tuan Le, Tarra Borden, Matt Peterman, Kelly Ray, Giorgio Usai, Chuck Booten, Kelly Erikson, Marissa Sprank, Chris Trefry, Sarah Bialkowsky, Lindsay Brookhart, Joey Clarizio, Kathy Temple and Megan Neal all will attend the state competition.
The students won awards in such fields as computer concepts, business calculations, keyboarding and public speaking.
Deputies to play 49ers
Spokane County sheriff’s deputies will take on members of the San Francisco 49ers football team Friday night - in basketball.
The game, being played to raise money for charity, will be held at East Valley High School at 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Benefit Basketball Association, a collection of NFL players who raise funds for charitable and non-profit organizations, Spokane County DARE officers, and Regional High 5 Schools.
Autographs will be signed at halftime and concessions will be provided by the East Valley High School Boosters.
Run supports drug-free activities
The 10th annual Drug Free Run on the Centennial Trail will be held April 30.
The 3.1-mile course begins near Walk in the Wild Zoo and heads east toward Sullivan. Runners begin at noon, and wheelchair racers begin at 11:55 a.m.
A non-competitive two-mile walk also begins at noon and heads west toward Euclid. Strollers and wagons will be allowed on the walk but not the run.
Proceeds will support the Centennial Middle School DARE program and other drug-free activities.
