Driver And Passenger Arrested On Drug Charges After Traffic Stop
A traffic stop led to two drug arrests Monday in the Spokane Valley.
Deputies stopped Leona F. Noland, 32, 1218 W. Carlisle, for a traffic infraction at Broadway and Yardley.
After giving deputies a false name, Noland was arrested for refusal to cooperate and for driving with a suspended license, said sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick.
Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.
Nolan and passenger Michael J. Bowman, 26, 1726 E. Boone, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and taken to Spokane County Jail.
A closer search of both of them at the jail revealed additional material suspected of being a controlled substance, deputies said.
Man accused of theft
A Valley man is accused of attempting to steal more than $1,230 worth of merchandise Sunday from Fred Meyer at Sprague and Sullivan.
Between 2 and 3 p.m., store security officials saw Paul E. McKinney, 22, 10402 E. Broadway, push a shopping cart out of the store without paying.
Items stolen included various kitchen utensils, tools, a vacuum cleaner, tent, videotape, suspenders and a cookie jar, Wiyrick said.
Deputies booked him into jail on charges of second-degree theft.
Man arrested when vehicle taken
A Valley man was arrested Saturday on charges of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission, deputies said.
The vehicle was taken from one part of the Kaiser Trentwood plant about 3 a.m. It was abandoned about 3:30 a.m. at the main gate.
Scott A. Myers, 25, 16201 E. Sprague, was booked into Spokane County Jail.
Drug found in shoe
Deputies stopped a Valley man for a traffic infraction last Tuesday and found that he had an arrest warrant.
A county corrections officer then searched Michael A. Harrison, 18, 19625 E. Wellesley, and found suspected methamphetamine in Harrison’s shoe.
Wiyrick said Harrison was booked into jail on the additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Explosive device found
A 6-year-old boy found a homemade explosive device at a baseball field at Glass and Park April 5.
He carried it to his home in the 3600 block of North Edgerton, deputies said.
The demolition unit came to the home, removed the device and destroyed it.
Idaho runaway arrested
Deputies arrested a 15-year-old runaway from Idaho at a Valley bowling alley last Thursday.
The youth was in possession of a vehicle that he allegedly had stolen from a neighbor in Clark Fork, Idaho.
He was taken to juvenile detention, Wiyrick.
Woman arrested
Deputies stopped a woman for a traffic violation at Sprague and University early last Thursday and ended up arresting her for driving under the influence.
Tina M. Roberts, of Spokane, was arrested at Sprague and University, about 3:12 a.m.
A passenger in her car, Lee A. Jackson, 32, was arrested for a traffic infraction - not wearing a seat belt - and for refusal to cooperate or give information.
Deputies searched the car and found what they believed to be drug paraphernalia and cocaine.
Jackson was charged with possession of a controlled substance and booked into Spokane CountyCity Jail.
Woman’s purse stolen
A woman’s purse was stolen off her shoulder April 5.
The woman told deputies she was returning to her residence on the 12000 block of East Marietta at about 8 p.m. As she was opening her trunk, a man, described as about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, grabbed her purse and ran away.
Juvenile accused of forgery
A 17-year-old juvenile tried to cash a forged check at Checkpoint, 12510 E. Sprague, on April 3.
Deputies said that he had stolen a checkbook from the North Side business where he worked, written a check and tried to cash it.
He was arrested for forgery and was taken to juvenile detention.
