Student Reportedly Lied About Killing
The student whose admission to Harvard was rescinded after the school learned she had killed her mother was rejected for lying about the crime during an admissions interview, sources said Thursday.
Gina Grant, 19, claimed during the interview with a Harvard alumnus last year that her mother had died in a car accident, according to sources involved in the admissions process.
After learning that Grant’s mother was actually bludgeoned to death with a candlestick, Harvard on April 3 rescinded its offer of admission.
The decision stirred debate over whether she should be allowed to put behind her a crime committed as a juvenile.
Last week, Harvard said only that its decision to rescind admission was based on information not disclosed in her application.
