Boy Shot During Target Practice
A 4-year-old boy was shot in the wrist and chest during target practice with his father and 6-yearold brother Saturday night south of Coeur d’Alene.
The boy was in stable condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane late Saturday.
He was hit with a bullet from a .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle.
The three were on their property near Rockford Bay, about 18 miles south of Coeur d’Alene about 7:30 p.m. when the boy was shot.
It’s not clear who was holding the gun when the boy was shot, said Kootenai County sheriff’s Lt. Ben Wolfinger. Authorities said the incident appeared to be an accident.
“We know they were all three outside,” Wolfinger said. But, he said, “We don’t really know (the details).”
Names will be released today, Wolfinger said.
