Neosock Is Best When Used For Water Wear
Product: Neosock
Description: A four-way stretch neoprene sock available in black, purple or camo. Comes in extra small (ladies 1 - 3.5), small (ladies 4 - 6.5 and men’s 4 - 5), medium (ladies 7 - 9 and men’s 6 - 8.5), large (ladies 9.5 - 11 and men’s 9 - 11.5), and extra large ( men’s 11.5 to 13).
Pro: The closed cell neoprene offers superior foot warmth in cold environments and easily slips on and off the foot and in and out of footwear. Sock is breathable and kept my feet from becoming tropical saunas even during hard use. The Neosock is not so thick that it will become too hot in warm weather/cold water use, yet it is thick enough to provide excellent insulation. Comfortable to wear in sandals, ski boots, and winter footwear. Keeps the foot warm even when wet.
Con: Inside a sandal for river use, the sock is great, but there is a dramatic loss in comfort and performance and also durability when the sock is tucked into a boot or shoe for either running or hiking.
Inside a pair of running shoes fitted generously to accommodate for the extra bulk of the neoprene, the Neosock bunched up uncomfortably. I found that the Neosock really is bestsuited only for water wear and winter use in ski boots or roomy insulated footwear when walking long distances is not a priority.
Comments: Intended as a form of unique insulation for use in winter footwear, the Neosock has gained wide appeal as a neoprene bootie used by river runners, boaters, fishermen (and women) and other cold-water adventurers seeking to add a level of warmth to a pair of all-terrain sandals such as Tevas. Frankly, I never head out to the ocean or river without tucking a pair into my backpack just in case the water is a little too frigid.
