The Hot Seat Our Weekly Look At Who’s In Trouble

Doing things the right way

The Hot Seat salutes the Coeur d’Alene police for the way they handled the standoff with Terry Jones this week. An alcoholic, despondent over his mother’s death, Jones holed up in his pickup camper for eight hours. He shot and killed his dog. Then he fired several more shots including one round that whizzed by an officer and shattered a nearby window. The police could have used the “assisted suicide” ploy and put the guy out of his misery. Instead they were patient, evacuated the appropriate areas and fired small amounts of tear gas into the camper until Jones gave up. They protected themselves, the neighbors and Jones. Nice job.

Marilyn Quayle: Bring the country together by tearing it apart.

Marilyn Quayle has some ideas for stopping divisiveness among Americans. Ban classes that teach multiculturalism. She says if we try to understand cultural differences we’ll end up just like Bosnia. She attacked Hillary Clinton for getting involved in - GASP! - a real issue; health care reform. Marilyn thinks Hillary has defamed the traditional role of the first lady with her heinous activism. And Bill Clinton is about to “emasculate” the presidency, according to the flighty Quayle. She was paid $10,000 to make those non-divisive remarks. It’s good work if you find it.

The Easter Bunny: Threat or menace?

We’ve joined the national trend to be nasty and we’ve had it with this under-achieving bunny. He’s had every chance to be famous but unlike the noble reindeer, has yet to have a song named after him. He leaves the kids disgusting, hard-shell candy eggs with gross filling. Or high cholesterol eggs stained with dye that contains who knows what. And how about that annoying green stringy grass? You’ll never get it all off the floor before the dog finds it. Then it gets tracked back through the house days later when the dog is done with it! Shuush. Be vewee quiet. We’re hunting wabbits.
