Graf Extends Streak To 18

Top-seeded Steffi Graf played her fourth quick match of the week, needing only 68 minutes to defeat Osa Carlsson of Sweden 6-1, 6-1 and win the Houston Women’s Tennis Championships.

Graf, No. 1 in the world, extended her unbeaten streak for 1995 to 18-0 in matches and 36-0 in sets played.

It was her fourth tournament victory of the year, and she has yet to be forced to three sets.

Graf, who won $79,000, cruised through the injury-depleted field, losing only 12 games in four matches.

Mary Pierce, Mary Joe Fernandez and Magdalena Maleeva of Bulgaria were forced to withdraw with injuries.
