Patient Starts Fire; Water Damage Results
A patient started a fire Sunday, resulting in water damage at Sacred Heart Medical Center, according to the Spokane Fire Department.
The patient, on the second floor of the hospital’s east wing, apparently used a cigarette lighter to ignite her bed and bedding. The fire set off the sprinkler system.
The Fire Department was called at 2:26 p.m., Battalion Chief Ron Bassen said.
The small fire was put out, but the sprinklers caused water damage to the first and second floors on the west end of the east wing.
The woman was not injured, Bassen said. She was arrested and taken to the Spokane County Jail, but her name was not available.
