Small Grease Fire Closes Rock City Grill

From Staff Reports

A downtown Spokane restaurant was closed Sunday afternoon after a grease fire burned through a small part of the floor.

Grease which had built up behind one of the gas stoves caught on fire at the Rock City Grill, 505 W. Riverside, said Ron Bassen, a Spokane fire battalion chief.

“That’s a real tough area,” Bassen said. “The way they have ranges, they’re set on concrete beams. This grease buildup was behind a concrete beam and difficult to see.”

Firefighters disconnected the stove and made sure the fire didn’t spread through the walls or to the basement. A 2-foot-square hole was burned through the floor.

Rock City Grill cannot reopen until the restaurant gets a gas fitter to put the stove back, but that could be today, Bassen said.
