Eastman Names Harris Assistant

Head coach Kevin Eastman announced that former Oregon State assistant coach Larry Harris has joined the men’s basketball staff at Washington State.

Harris fills one of the two full-time assistant positions available at WSU. Two weeks ago, Byron Samuels was named head coach at Hampton (Va.) University and Jeff Schneider accepted the head position at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

“We were fortunate to replace quality with quality,” said Eastman, who led the Cougars to the third round of the 1995 National Invitation Tournament and an 18-12 overall record in his first season.

Harris worked in the Pacific-10 Conference from 1993-95 as an assistant on Jim Anderson’s Oregon State staff. He began his coaching career at Duquesne University as a volunteer assistant before he moved into a full-time assistant position in 1986.

A native of Cleveland, Harris was a basketball standout at Pittsburgh, then played two seasons in the NBA.
