Fish Quiz Puts Knowledge To Test

Gene E. Lorenson

How well do you know the fish you are likely to encounter in our Inland Northwest waters? Here are silhouettes of 10 fish you might catch while fishing area lakes and streams. Can you identify them?

A few clues may help. Two are members of the sunfish family, two are salmonoids, another is a close relative of the salmonoids.

One is a member of the perch family, another is the largest minnow in our waters. You could say that one species needs a shave.

Two aren’t considered gamefish, but one of them can earn you a few extra dollars and the other is an important food fish in Europe and Asia.

One of the salmonoids is the most popular fish in the region. Two of the fish are anadromous, entering our rivers from the ocean. One of these anadromous fish is the largest member of the herring family.

See below for the answers.
