Injury Sidelines Ewing

Compiled From Wire Services

A hamstring injury kept New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing out of Friday night’s game against the Boston Celtics at Boston.

The Knicks also announced that guard Derek Harper had been placed on the injured list with a sore right ankle and shin. He had not played the second half of Thursday’s game.

Charlie Ward, who had been on the injured list, was activated to take Harper’s spot.

At least Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd has a sense of humor about his apparent outside chance at winning the NBA rookie of the year award.

When told he had recorded his fourth triple-double in 10 games on the eve of the voting deadline, Kidd smiled and said sarcastically, “Maybe this game doesn’t count.”
