Woman Hit By Bike Remains In Coma

From Staff And Wire Reports

The condition of a woman who was struck by a bicycle on a downtown Spokane sidewalk earlier this month has improved from critical to serious, although she remains in a coma.

Janice Everhart, 49, of Spokane, has been unconscious at Deaconess Medical Center since the accident in the 900 block of West Riverside on April 4.

Everhart, a Spokesman-Review advertising executive who works in the paper’s Coeur d’Alene office, was leaving the Great Western Building when the eastbound bicyclist struck her about 3:15 p.m.

Police have spoken with the 17-year-old bicyclist, but haven’t charged him. Authorities refuse to identify the boy because he is a juvenile.
